Help! I've never been to church before!
That’s ok. We’re a nice group of people who will be happy to help you
and make you feel comfortable.
At St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, we use
the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer, and each season we have a worship booklet
which contains the full service, so you don’t have to struggle with page
numbers. We sing from the Hymnal, with occasional music added through the
worship booklet or hand-outs.
If you are not sure what to do, just follow everyone else or, if you prefer,
you can just remain seated throughout the service. You are under no obligation
to join in any of the singing or even to like the music. We know we don't
all have the same musical tastes and we don't expect you to either.
At each service, we celebrate "The Great Thanksgiving", or "Communion".
This involves eating a small piece of bread and drinking a little wine,
the Body and Blood of Christ. This is done by Christian believers in memory
of the death and resurrection of Jesus. If you have not been baptized but
desire to receive a blessing, you may come forward with the others, cross
your arms over your chest, and you will be given a blessing. Baptized Christians
of all ages may receive the bread and wine. If you desire to be baptized,
we will be happy to talk with you further.
As a visitor you are not expected to contribute to the work of the church
(that's our responsibility) so don't feel embarrassed to pass the Offertory
plate on without putting anything in it.
After both services, refreshments are served. Join us in the parish hall
for refreshments. Just follow the crowd.
Should you need to visit the "facilities", they may be found through the
double doors on the right near the front, or in the classroom building to
your left as you exit the main door. Our ushers will be glad to direct you
there.
For meetings other than church services we use the Parish Hall or a room
in the classroom building. Any member or Usher will be glad to direct you
to the appropriate area.
